Yogurt and Oatmeal Face Scrub for Acne

Since my adolescence I have been dealing with acne. As I’ve gotten older, it has been getting better. I also think that my shift toward nontoxic beauty and natural remedies over the last five or so years has helped treat it more effectively. However, acne and blemishes seem to be an unavoidable part of my life. I do what I can to minimize these breakouts, so I created this Yogurt and Oatmeal Face Scrub for acne that uses just three ingredients.

Yogurt and Oatmeal Face Scrub

2 tbsp plain yogurt

2 tbsp finely ground oats

1 tsp honey

Add all ingredients to a small bowl.

Stir with a fork until combined.

Try not to eat it.

To use, apply only to a freshly washed face.

Scoop out a liberal amount and rub over your face in gentle, circular motions for about 5 minutes.

Avoid your eyes.

Rinse off with warm water.

Pat dry.

Yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) which acts as a gentle chemical peel. It also has zinc which is actually added to many acne treatment products because it stops and inhibits the growth of common acne bacteria. Oats are another gentle exfoliant. They contain many minerals which regulate oil production and vitamins that support skin regeneration. It also can reduce swelling and redness. Honey is soothing, moisturizing, and full of antioxidants which protect your skin. It is also antibacterial helping to clean the skin and eliminate acne bacteria.

When I used this scrub, I was happy to find my skin smoother and softer afterward. The pimples I had became almost entirely flat and their redness was gone. I was also impressed that I did not feel the need to slather on any moisturizer afterward. My face felt hydrated enough without any extra.
