Homemade Bentonite Clay Toothpaste

I have been making my own toothpaste with basically the same recipe for years now. When I received bentonite clay at Christmas though, I decided I wanted to experiment with it. First I made the Bentonite Clay Face Mask, and then I wanted to try adding it to my toothpaste. This new homemade Bentonite Clay Toothpaste recipe is still natural and uses just a few ingredients, and it turns out I much prefer it to my old recipe. Check it out below.

Bentonite Clay Toothpaste

3 tbsp distilled water

2 tbsp bentonite clay

2 tbsp coconut oil

1/2 tsp baking soda

8-10 drops cinnamon essential oil

Slightly warm coconut oil and stir to combine with the rest of the ingredients.

(Do not use metal utensils when working with bentonite clay.)

Store in an airtight container and place in a cupboard or drawer to keep it out of the light.

To use, put about a pea sized amount on your toothbrush and brush as usual.

This toothpaste may not have many ingredients, but each one packs a punch for your oral hygiene. When bentonite clay comes into contact with liquid, it produces an electrical charge which then draws out toxins from whatever it is applied to. Coconut oil is antimicrobial so it fights against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Baking soda removes stains and can help whiten teeth. (I like that this recipe uses less baking soda than my old one which makes it less abrasive.) And cinnamon essential oil helps kills the bacteria that cause tooth decay and gum disease.
