Helping Feed Children with Cuddle+Kind Dolls

Close friends of ours just had their first baby. It’s a big change and an exciting time for them. I was thrilled to discover the company cuddle+kind pretty near within the same week. After seeing their adorable dolls and reading about their values and mission, I just knew this was how I wanted to celebrate and honor the new bundle of joy in our friends’ lives.

Cuddle+Kind Dolls - Littles

After seeing a documentary on childhood hunger, a Canadian family wanted to start a social business to improve the lives of children in need. Now through cuddle+kind, they are truly making a difference.

Each of the dolls is hand knit by more than 100 artisans in Peru using 100% premium natural cotton. They have personally met with these women in Peru whose lives are being changed through this opportunity to earn a fair wage.

Additionally, each doll – big or little – provides 10 meals children in need. Cuddle+kind has partnered with the World Food Program’s School Meals Program and sponsor orphanages in Haiti through the Children’s Hunger Fund. Their goal is to provide one million meals to hungry children around the world. So far they have already donated over 200,000 meals.

There are nine dolls, and since launching the “little” collection, they each are available in two different sizes. From bright and cheerful mermaids to dapper bunnies, deer with a sweet tooth to trendy cats, and a quirky penguin – there is something for everyone.

Each doll comes with a birth date, favourite inspirational quotation, and short background story about themselves as well. Any accessories are sewn into place, and there are no buttons in sight, so these dolls are enjoyable for all ages.

Cuddle + Kind Dolls - Scout the Deer

After much deliberation, since they are each so great in their own way, we decided on Scout the deer for our present. When he arrived, I was so impressed by the quality with which he was made. He is durable yet soft, and of course, unbelievably adorable. I also love the little bracelet he has reading “1 doll = 10 meals” which to me acts as a reminder to be generous and think of others.

You can find out more about what cuddle+kind is up to on Facebook or check out all the other cuties enjoying their dolls on Instagram.

I’m a knitter, and this is usually the kind of thing I’d look at and say, “Oh, that’s adorable, I’ll make my own.”

BUT, given the purpose of this company, I will order one for my due-any-day-now grandson. I think his big brother-to-be, and his cousin, would also love a cuddly bunny or mermaid!

Thank you for letting us know about this company, Grace!

Oh, yay! I’m sure they will all love them. With cuddle+kind it really is an awesome opportunity to support children and families around the world. How exciting to be welcoming a new grandson any day now. Congratulations in advance!

PS – Wow, that is some serious talent that you can knit your own stuffies like these, impressive!

Hi Grace, thanks for telling us about these cute stuffies! I love that they are fair-trade (and the company gives 10 meals per purchase). They are so cute – love the popsicle sweater.

Good to learn about this campaign. Thanks for the heads up. It’s good to support such a helpful idea and I wish them all the luck (and sufficient funds) to achieve the best.
