For the last number of years I’ve been making my own toothpaste just from baking soda, cinnamon, and water. It’s worked great, but I’ve always found the brown and gritty consistency off putting. I decided to play around and now have a great new recipe to share with you. This homemade toothpaste tastes okay, the texture is smooth, and it leaves my teeth feeling clean and my whole mouth fresh.
3 tbsp baking soda
1 ½ tbsp coconut oil
8 drops cinnamon essential oil
Slightly warm coconut oil and combine with the rest of the ingredients. Store in an airtight container and place in a cupboard or drawer (somewhere out of the light).
Baking soda is great and removing stains and thus will help whiten teeth.
Coconut oil has antimicrobial properties meaning it acts against bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
Cinnamon helps kill the bacteria that cause tooth decay and gum disease. By using the essential oil instead of cinnamon, I was able to avoid the abovementioned brown colour and grittiness.
